    <title>Sometimes People Don't Deliver</title>
<content type="html">
            I'm working with a client who needs to have tablet PCs. The vendor we were dealing with promised us delivery by this past Monday or Tuesday. I checked back in with the salesperson today. It turns out the tablets are not shipping until Friday - the client will be receiving them NEXT Monday or Tuesday. I'm still waiting to hear what caused the delay.

My simple wish is for people to do what they say. I would much rather hear - up front - what to expect. Disappointment only occurs when expectations are not met. I'm sure the client will be none-too-pleased to learn of this tomorrow.

    <title>Engine Yard Receives Additional $15 Million in Funding</title>
<content type="html">
            I just read this posting from Ezra Zygmuntowicz (Engine Yard Co-founder) this morning.

http://brainspl.at/articles/2008/07/14/engine-yard-takes-15mill-series-b-round-from-nea-amazon-and-benchmark

This is wonderful news for the Ruby community. Their staff is comprised of some really, really smart folks who want to see Ruby as a language succeed. Engine Yard started out as a web hosting company specializing in Rails applications but they have really spread their wings. They have made contributions on deploying and scaling Rails. Employees have begun work on an alternate VM - Rubinius. They have also been working on an alternate web framework to Rails - Merb.

Keep up the great work, guys. I know this funding will not make you complacent.

    <title>Working with New iMac</title>
<content type="html">
            Today my trusty Windows XP workhorse died. It was a long time coming. Thankfully I've been backing the host up so nothing was lost. In its place I've purchased a new iMac running OSX Leopard. I also picked up 2 500GB external hard drives. I'm going to be putting ZFS to work. It's something I've been meaning to play with on a Solaris 10 host but unfortunately my A1000 array has been in storage for the past several years. It is good to see other vendors besides Sun embracing this amazing file system.

For more information, take a look at this ZFS administration guide at http://opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/docs/zfsadmin.pdf.

    <title>The Power of Rails</title>
<content type="html">
            I'm working on a PDF form for a client. Nothing too fancy but still I have to marvel at the beauty of Ruby code. The expressiveness of Ruby code. This will allow my client (physician practice) to save real money and real staff time. Ruby makes me happy.

            Old Runarounders = Errand and Concierge Service
New Runarounders = Computer stuff
Several years ago I started an errand service. My goals were simple - cornering the market for concierge services in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. People seemed receptive - I even had exclusive rights at a health club that counted approximately 10% of the county as members (roughly 12,000 people).

Unfortunately I had two things going against me - one, there were too few individuals interested in my services and two, the businesses I had contacted about offering services required equipment purchases I was in no position to make. As a result, Runarounders stopped running.

Until now.

Ta-da...allow me to introduce the new and improved Runarounders. I've decided to put my shingle out again. Only this time I'm offering technical services. Stay tuned...
